Dealing With The Unexpected

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.  –1 Peter 4:12-13

Good Morning Friend,

Has something ever happened to you unexpectedly that left you asking "Lord why me?"

YES…I know I have.  Lets just be real, when most of us received Christ into our lives we thought that meant that life was going to be smooth sailing, without any problems, without any cares.  YEAH OK…and we all know that fantasy came to a quick end.  The fact of the matter is this, in life there are a lot of un-expectancies that you will face.  No matter your nationality, educational background, social/economic status or even religious beliefs—life will present you with some unfavorable moments at times.  Nevertheless, it's all about what you do with what you are dealt.

As a believer [Christian], we face life just like the next man or woman but we have also been given tools to help us get through whatever life may bring.  What are those tools you ask…well I'm glad you asked!  When Christ died for our sins, he said that he would not leave us without a comforter.  That comforter is His paraclete, His Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost.  This comforter is our advocate and our intercessor.  In this comforter we can find refuge & shelter, a provider, a protector…whatever you need you can access it through Christ's spirit.  So when times get hard what keeps the believer from cracking up and blowing our brains out is the awesome spirit of God that wraps His protecting arms around us in our darkest moments.  Try calling on the name of the Lord when you are going through or are at your wits end…see wont He come and be that comforter for you.  Moreover, the wonderful thing about the comforter is that you don't have to make an appointment to talk to Him and you don't have to worry about Him getting tired of you crying out to Him.  In fact, the comforter even bottles every tear that you have and will ever cry…now that's comfort for you!

We also have God's Holy Word.  No matter what situation I may experience and how hard life may get I can always open the Word of God and get the answer to whatever I'm facing.  The Holy Bible is the ultimate weapon for the believer.  It builds us up, it corrects us and it instructs us and gives great examples of how those who came before us dealt with various life situations and overcame victoriously.

Recently, I was talking with a friend who experienced a great loss of a loved one.  As I sat there she began to ask me why?  Why did this happen and why did it have to happen to her?  I simply began to speak from out of my experience and I told her, I don't know why God allows some things to happen to us.  Some things we go through we eventually see the purpose of why we had to endure such a thing, sometimes we don't see the purpose until years down the line—and in some things we may never see the purpose of the pain and un-expectant life disappointments.  However, I do know that no matter what we go through that God wont put more on us than we can bear.  Actually He will be there with us throughout whatever life may bring to help us carry the load and to comfort us and be our strength and guide—if we let Him.

The whole truth of the matter boils down to this, just as Christ was falsely accused, rejected, talked about, betrayed, beat and ultimately crucified, so will we.  Moreover, if He endured far worse then we may ever experience and was able to still remain who He was and asked the Father to forgive those who did these awful things to Him "for they know not what they have done" then we as followers of Christ can endure and overcome the tragedies, disappointments and just flat out unexpected attacks of life.  1 Peter 4:12-13 states in the Message translation Bible "friends, when life gets really difficult, don't jump to the conclusion that God isn't on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner."  Glory To God!

So as you go throughout your week begin to prophecy to your situation and let the devil in hell know…hey, I'm going through this, but I'm not alone!  Christ came that I would have life and life abundantly.  This situation is not to destroy me, but to make me stronger.  And guess what…MY GLORY IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!  Hallelujah!  You can and you will make it.  If you have the Lord on your side, you have what it takes to make it through.  So from now on when life hands you lemons, reach for the sugar, a big spoon and a pitcher and make you some lemonade.  Begin to rejoice in the midst of your trials today for you will come out of this as pure gold and you shall recover it all!

Much Love,

Clyde L. Webster
